Mr. Cope is accustom to designing course curricula adapted to each unique organization he has been affiliated with. Mr. Cope works with agencies to develop coursework specific to the challenges of the agency.

Courses can be developed to run from four to forty hours.
Mr. Cope obtained his first teaching certificate from California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) in 1970. He started teaching for the Huntington Beach Police Department defense tactics shortly thereafter. He started on staff as an Instructor at the Criminal Justice Training Center at Golden West College in Huntington Beach in 1975. Mr. Cope has taught subjects in adult learning, arrest and control, baton techniques, defense tactics, ethics, gang awareness, instructor development, patrol procedures, report writing, S.W.A.T. operations, traffic stops & traffic accident investigation, use of force documentation and investigation and other law enforcement related topics. Mr. Cope was granted a Lifetime California Department of Education Teaching Credential, Community College level, in 1976, which certifies him to teach and train law enforcement personnel at Colleges and P.O.S.T. Commission approved training facilities.
Mr. Cope is a certified Master Instructor by the State of California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.). Mr. Cope acts as a consultant for P.O.S.T. in the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation, Instructor Update Course, where he provides training for law enforcement personnel in how to develop training and teaching techniques. He has acted as a consultant for P.O.S.T. in course design and curricula development, mentoring, recommended training changes, assisted in tele-course productions and training procedures. In November of 1997, Mr. Cope was asked by P.O.S.T. to accept a position as Program Administrator in the Institute of Criminal Investigation Instructor Development Workshop Series. In this position he administers instruction, manages existing programs and developing new training material or new training programs for all instructors teaching within the Institute.
Mr. Cope was awarded the EXCELLENCE IN INSTRUCTION AWARD for the years of 2000 –2001 by the Institute’s leadership. In 2006 he was awarded the Institute’s FOUNDER’S AWARD for LEADERSHIP IN EDCUATIONAL EXCELLENCE. Mr. Cope continues as the Administrator of the ICII program and also provides training for law enforcement making presentations for local, state, federal and international personnel on a variety of topics. Additionally, Mr. Cope has been awarded the MENTORING EXCELLENCE AWARD, California POST Instructor Symposium, 2009 and AWARD OF EXCELLENCE for Redesigning the Institute of Criminal Investigation Instructor Development Course, 2010 & 2011 and in 2013, Mr. Cope was awarded a CERTIFICATE OF EXCELLENCE for outstanding work and dedication to the P.O.S.T. Instructor Development Institute – Mentor Program.
